Brand history

The creator of the brand is Sonia Rykiel, nicknamed Queen of Knitwear
The brand was founded in 1968 and this year celebrates its 55th anniversary; the first store was opened on the left bank of the Seine in Paris, on Boulevard Saint-Germain. In 1983, the first children's line was released (40th anniversary). Sonia Rykiel received the French title "Chevalier of the Legion of Honor" for her contribution to the fashion industry. The brand's clients included Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, and Audrey Hepburn.

“My first husband was the owner of the Laura knitwear store. When I was pregnant, I was inspired to create comfortable knitted sweaters and maternity clothes. The products were sold in my husband's store. And the further they went, the more popular they became among Parisian fashionistas. This is how I got my nickname “Queen of Knitwear”.

DNA and philosophy

Inspiration for collections is in the people around them, in their stories, feelings and emotions
Playful, poetic, with a Parisian spirit - clothes that liberate and give the girl a feeling of complete flight and freedom
Basic casual style with elements of glamor: romantic, airy, gentle
Recognizable detail of the brand: white-black-red-pink stripe
Knitwear that begins to live and breathe in the rhythm of the body
Sonia Rykiel: “Inside-out seams show the side that is adjacent to the skin - it is more beautiful. The seams follow the shape of the body - like the vaults of a temple"
Clothes are not only decoration, but also a manifesto. Design as a bridge between fashion, literature and activism
Key details of the brand are multi-colored stripes, inside-out seams and edges, exquisite velvet and knitwear, rhinestones, glitter and prints with hearts.
