John Richmond

Brand history

My girlfriend worked at the Joseph store, where they didn't have their own uniforms
She wore what I sewed for her. And every day she received questions from customers, “Where can I find this thing?” When they found out that these clothes were not from the Joseph brand, they turned around and left. The store manager fired her for this. In the next store, the director himself became interested in her clothes, and then I created my first capsule for them” - John Richmond, founder of the brand.

Richmond, originally from Manchester, moved to London as a youth and then to Milan to create his own clothing brand. He graduated in fashion from Kingston University in 1982, after which he decided to create his own line of clothing in collaboration with Armani, Joseph Tricot and Fiorucci.

Since 1987, Richmond has worked under his own name, creating three lines: the main line John Richmond, the second youth line Richmond X and the denim line Richmond Denim.

Because of his rock and grunge style, Richmond has dressed such stars as Madonna, George Michael, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Annie Lennox, Axl Rose, Bryan Adams, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Dita Von Teese, Kate Moss and Lady Gaga.
